Enhanced cooperation is to be achieved by the network’s mobility initiative, which encompasses the following specific measures:

Global Humanities Junior Fellowship (4 to 6 months): FUB hosts one Master student or PhD candidate from every partner institution, and one FUB Master student or PhD candidate is hosted by every partner institution per academic year. Tuition fees are waived. Scholars hosted by FUB are to have arrived by the time the network’s annual Global Humanities Campus is taking place in July (see below). This measure will take place in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Global Humanities Junior Research and Teaching Stay (3 to 5 months): FUB hosts one postdoctoral scholar or assistant professor from every partner institution, and one FUB postdoctoral scholar or assistant professor is hosted by every partner institution per academic year. Scholars are to teach at the respective partner institution during their research stays and to participate in the Global Humanities Campus taking place in Berlin in summer (see below). Scholars hosted by FUB may fulfill their teaching obligations at the summer school. The DAAD stipulates that the scholars’ research be related to the network’s theme of cultural dynamics, and that they will have established contact with scholars at the relevant partner institution at the point of application. Scholars hosted by FUB are to have arrived before the Global Humanities Campus takes place in Berlin in summer. This measure will take place in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Global Humanities Senior Research and Teaching Stay (1 month): FUB hosts one associate professor or full professor, and one FUB associate professor or full professor is dispatched to each partner institution per academic year. The scholar is expected to give lectures and teach a master class related to the network’s theme of cultural dynamics. Scholars hosted by FUB may teach their master class in the context of the summer school. Scholars may schedule their research stays at a time of their choosing. This measure will take place in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Global Humanities Distinguished Lecture Series: Each member institution invites outstanding senior scholars from the pool of partner institutions for lectures; ideally, each institution invites two professors per year. For the sake of coherence, this lecture series shall bear the same name and be advertised with visually uniform posters, flyers, etc. at every institution. Lectures are to take place in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

The network’s mobility initiative is complemented by the Global Humanities Campus, which is aimed at both facilitating transnational research collaboration among postdoctoral scholars and professors, as well as giving graduate students the opportunity to learn about current issues in the global humanities and receive feedback on their research projects. The Global Humanities Campus encompasses:

 Joint Workshop: Two scholars per institution participate in a workshop on questions related to the network’s theme of cultural dynamics; in 2014, two workshops will take place in Berlin, one in January in conjunction with the opening ceremony, and the other in July. In 2015, the workshop will take place in the summer and be hosted by a partner institution; in 2016, the workshop will take place in Berlin in July again. In July 2014, 2015 and 2016, every partner institution may send the scholar who obtained the Global Humanities Junior Research and Teaching Stay that year plus a senior scholar. In 2014 and 2016, the workshop is to coincide with the summer school. The senior scholar is invited to stay in Berlin for a total of seven days and teach at the summer school in addition to participating in the joint workshop.

 Summer School: Up to three Master students or PhD candidates per partner institution participate in this two-week summer school exploring questions related to the network’s theme of cultural dynamics. Each partner institution may send the Global Humanities Junior Fellow of that year plus up to two other graduate students. In all three years (2014-2016), the summer school will take place in Berlin in the month of July.
